Gabriel Narutowicz began his notable career as
an engineer Designed and directed the construction of hydroelectric plants
in Switzerland, Italy and Spain. After the war became Minister of Public
Works, then of Foreign Affairs, and in 1922 first president of the Polish
Republic. Was assassinated a few days after taking office.
