Mikolaj Rej was a poet and prose writer of the Polish Renaissance, recognized
as the Father of Polish Literature. The first Polish writer to forsake
Latin in favor of his native tongue, he was a self-educated man of great
vitality. As a Protestant he took an active part in the Reformation movement.
Was a member of parliament. His satires criticized the faults of the society
in a picturesque and terse language.
