Stanislaw Staszic was a priest, philosopher, statesman,
geologist, scholar; poet and writer one of the leaders of the Polish Enlightenment.
He was a strong partisan of reforms and advocated the interests of the
lower classes. After the partitions, he organized mining schools, societies
of learning, departments of industry and arts. His works include Warnings
for Poland and The Human Race.
