Krakow State Philharmonic

  • founded in 1945
  • the ensemble consists of: an orchestra of 100-plus persons, a mixed choir of about 100 persons and a 40-person boys choir
  • the repertoire includes works of all periods and styles, but Polish music always holds a special position
  • many outstanding soloists and conductors have worked here, e.g.: Witold Małcużyński, Sviatoslav Richter, Arthur Rubinstein, Isaak Sternand currently the famous Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki
  • the Philharmonic orchestra is a regular guest at the "Warsaw Autumn" music festival, as well as other European and world festivals; it was the first Polish ensemble to appear at La Scala in Milan
Capella Cracoviensis

  • includes: a chamber orchestra, a madrigal ensemble, a male vocal ensemble
  • the repertoire includes pieces from medieval to contemporary music
  • every August the ensemble is an organiser an international festival "Music in Old Krakow"
Sinfonietta Cracovia Orchestra

  • founded in 1993, the youngest orchestra in Krakow
  • a twenty-person chamber orchestra led by a violinist Robert Kabara
  • modern music holds a special place in its rich repertoire
  • many outstanding soloists and conductors have worked with the ensemble, e.g. K.Penderecki, G.Żyslin, B.Pergamenschikow, C.Edinger
  • the ensemble participated in the "Warsaw Autumn" festival and also in the prestigious 1200th Jubilee Festival of Frankfurt on the Main
  • since 1994 under the City auspices
The Opera and Operetta in Krakow

The origins of this institution reach back to the early 19th century, when an old riding school at 48 Lubicz Street was occassionaly used as a concert hall. In the 1930s the interior was remodelled to meet the requirements of a theatrical-concert hall. In 1945 the Municipal Music Theatre was founded. Presently the institution has two independent stages: one for the Opera and another for the Operetta. The Opera and Operetta ensembles are invited to perform in many places in Poland and abroad.

Radio Symphony Orchestra

  • founded in 1947
  • currently one of the few privatised symphony orchestras in Poland
  • concerts held in Krakow, as well as around Poland and abroad
  • concerts can be prepared to the requirements of specific clients
Polish Radio Choir

  • founded in 1947 as a part of the Polish Radio Orchestra and Choir
  • performs in live radio concerts, studio recordings, including vocal-instrumental and a cappella
  • performs the premieres of works of modern composers such as: Roman Maciejewski, Witold Lutosławski and Krzysztof Penderecki
  • it has appeared at many prestigious international festivals

Fiori Musicali Baroque Music Ensemble
  • the main core of the ensemble are graduates of the Krakow Academy of Music
  • the ensemble performs Baroque music: Italian, French, German, English and Polish compositions of the 17th and 18th century, playing authentic instruments and performing in accordance with the techniques of the epoch
The Salon Orchestra of Viennese Music
  • founded in 1986
  • an ensemble of young and outstanding musicians, soloists of Krakow chamber orchestras and the Krakow Philharmonic
  • their repertoire includes the most magnificent Strauss waltzes, marches and polkas
The Jagiellonian Baroque Orchestra
  • an ensemble consisting of Jagiellonian University and the Krakow Academy of Music students
  • the ensemble mainly performs Baroque music
Camerata Cracovia Ensemble
  • the repertoire includes old music, songs and dances of the Renaissance
  • the ensemble performs in period costumes, playing renaisiance instruments
Amar Corde Quartet
  • a classical string quartet consisting of members of the Krakow Philharmonic
  • the repertoire includes classical and romantic compositions, as well as those of contemporary Polish composers
Cracovia String Quartet
  • established in 1990 by students of the Krakow Academy of Music
  • it has participated in prestigious competitions, concerts and recordings in Poland and abroad
Inconostas Sacral Music Ensemble
  • the repertoire includes outstanding compositions of the 19th and 20th century composers from Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Serbia, the Carpathians, songs of the Halicz region, and monastic music
  • performs in Orthodox churches
  • the ensemble occasionally sings during Orthodox services
Collegio Antico Ensemble of Ancient Music
  • the ensemble consists of music school graduates from Poland, England and Germany
  • the repertoire includes compositions of medieval and Renaissance Polish and European masters (secular and religious songs, psalms, carols and pastorals)
  • the artists play old instruments and sing using old performing techniques. Often their concerts are accompanied by Renaissance dances
Muzyka Centrum Ensemble
  • establised in 1977
  • the ensemble consists of 25 leading solists and instrumentalists
  • organises concerts in which all the styles and achievements of contemporary music are represented
  • also organises festivals and educational projects Audio Art Festival, Summer Courses in Krakow
Organum Academic Choir
  • founded in 1969, performs under the auspices of the Catholic Intellectuals Club
  • its repertoire contains old music and contemporary compositions
  • co-operates with Polish philharmonics, the Krakow Opera and Capella Cracoviensis
  • the choir participates in various festival events
The Krakow Academic Choir
  • the choir has been active at the Jagiellonian University for over a century
  • one of the oldest male choirs in Poland
  • takes part in many festivals
The Krakow Chamber Choir
  • established in 1990
  • consists of students and graduates of the Krakow Academy of Music
  • the repertoire includes compositions of the Renaissance to contemporary times
  • the ensemble participates in international festivals
  • recognized as one of the best mixed academic choirs
JAZZ BANDS

Old Metropolitan Band
  • established in 1968
  • its repertoire is unconventional; beginning with traditional jazz standards, via "evergreens," jazzed-up versions of classical compositions
  • has received the largest number of festival awards of all jazz bands in Krakow
Boba Jazz Band
  • established by the "legend of Polish traditional jazz" - a pianist, Jan Boba
  • the repertoire is based on popular jazz standards beginning with Dixieland, via blues to swing and boogie-woogie
  • has participated in many international festivals, performing also in Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Russia and the Ukraine
Beale Street Band
  • a traditional jazz band established in 1974
  • the repertoire includes original jazz compositions as well as traditional blues, fox-trot, Creole trumpeter's marches, swinging ragtime and classic rock-and-roll
Jazz Band Ball
  • established in 1962 by students of the Krakow Academy of Music, - within its repertoire one may find the sounds of Louis Armstrong, elements of be-bop, rock, boogie, folklore and Afro-American blues
  • since 1972, the band has toured Europe and America, including The Sacramento Jazz Jubilee in California
  • the band has cut 18 records in Poland, Germany, Holland and the USA
The Willows Revival Singers
  • established in 1988
  • one of the few Polish groups performing Negro-spirituals
  • its repertoire also includes the most beautiful Polish Christmas carols and pastorals
  • the ensemble has performed at many festivals in Poland and abroad
Janusz Muniak and Friends
  • contemporary jazz ensemble performing with many famous Polish and European artists
  • Janusz Muniak, an outstanding Polish saxophonist, is the leader of the group
  • the group performs on a regular basis at the Jazz Club U Muniaka

Ballet of Contemporary Form

  • the ensemble was established in 1969 by Jerzy Maria Birczyński
  • the best known students' contemporary dance ensemble of 18 performers, dancers, and soloists, awarded at many international festivals
  • the repertoire is directed towards pure dance form deprived of literary plot
  • music is an inspiration to the dancers, beginning with blues and soul music, via jazz, to classical and contemporary music
  • cooperated with choreographers like Duglas Dunn (USA - post dance trend) and David Earle (TorontoDance Theatre)
EST Experimental Dance Studio

  • the group was established in 1987, under the artistic management of Iwona Olszowska
  • contemporary dance group applying kinaesthesia, the analysis of movement, (influence of Laban, Bartinieff), so as allow defined consciousness of movement to develop its own language

  • co-operation on a permanent basis with American choreographers and dance artists
Kontrast Student's Dance Theatre

  • a students' ensemble of contemporary dance
  • presentations based on the beauty of the human body, its movement and dynamics, searching for new artistic values and significance by means of surprising spatial developments and lighting techniques
Oranim Balet Ensemble

  • established in 1995, the promising ensemble consists of professional artists, graduates of Ballet Schools of Warsaw, Paris and Moscow, - choreographer and artistic manager, Michał Zubkov, graduate of the ballet school in Permia (Russia)

  • the name of the ensemble derives from their first show (Miniatures of Jewish Dances)
  • oranim in Hebrew means "candles"
  • the repertoire is based on Jewish, Polish and Russian dances, as well as choreography to music of Strauss, Albinioni, Massenet, Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi
  • choreography is based on classical and contemporary dance
