Stary Theatre - Street Jagiellońska 5, Tel: 21-85-66, sec., Tel: 21-29-77
  • founded in 1787, and acknowledged as one of the best
  • has status of a national theatre
  • Member of the Union of European Theatres, organiser of the 5th European Theatres Union Festival
  • the theatre has three stages (Scena Duża, Scena Kameralna, Scena Mała)
  • the dramatic repertoire is quite varied: from classics to plays of modern Polish and foreign playwrights
  • directors collaborating with the theatre include A. Wajda, J. Grzegorzewski and K. Lupa
  • it houses its own museum with permanent exhibition of costumes, photographs, props and posters
Juliusz Słowacki Theatre - Pl. Św. Ducha 1, Tel: 22-40-22
  • built in the 19th century and modelled on the Paris Opera
  • the theatre has two stages (Scena Duża, Miniatura)
  • their repertoire includes the plays of classic foreign and Polish playwrights
  • the theatre also serves as the stage for the Opera and Operetta, e.g. the world premiere of K. Penderecki?s Ubu Roi
  • since 1991, when the proceedings of the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE) were held in the theatre, other international programmes have been organised here as well
Groteska Theatre of Puppets & Masks - Street Skarbowa 2, Tel: 33 37 62
  • founded in 1945
  • specialized in puppet shows for children, "family theatre", shows for adults
  • co-operates with the Center of Japanese Art and Technology producing e.g. Japanese Fairytales
  • one of the most original theatre companies in Poland

  • founded in 1955
  • the repertoire includes works of classic and modern playwrights
  • the staging of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (1992) with the participation of amateurs, punks and skinheads make the theatre even more internationally known
  • the organizer the annual Kanonicza Street Fest
  • the Stage under the City Hall Tower repertoire includes: comedies cabaret shows, song and ballad recitals
  • took part in international festivals including Edinburg Festival
Bagatela Theatre - Street Karmelicka 6, Tel: 22 45 44
  • founded in 1911
  • specializes in a light repertoire (farces, comedies, cabaret shows)
  • also produces shows for children and young people
  • known for musical abilities of actors
Bόcklein Theatre - Street Lubicz 5a, Tel. 11 98 61, 11 96 93
  • the newest unconventional stage in Krakow
  • actors from the Stary Teatr cooperate on permanent basis with the theatre
  • the world-wide premiere of S. Beckett?s Watt was held here
  • open to all kinds of experimental performances, concerts and meetings
STU Theatre - Street Krasińskiego 16, Tel: 22 27 44
  • the theatre traditionally organises televised benefits and tributes to famous performers
  • the repertoire includes contemporary plays and cabaret shows
  • involved in the film and video industry, as well as publishing
  • holds a collection of 80 paintings by modern artists
School Theatre of PWST - Street Straszewskiego 22, Tel: 22 18 55
  • the School Theatre of the State Theatrical Upper School (PWST) was founded in 1946
  • it owns an amphitheatre
  • the diploma performances of the students are supplemented by guest presentations and concerts
  • Krakow Theatrical Reminiscences are held here

Mandala Society
  • taking advantage of the experiences of the Mandala Theatre (1982-1992), the society's artistic endeavours fall into: the "typical" stage co-operation with institutional theatres and the "atypical" stage in unconventional forms of presentation)
  • participates in the Jewish Culture Festival and in the Krakow Theatrical Reminiscences
Akne Theatre
  • created in a search for unconventional means of expression, initially defined as "womens theatre"
  • awarded the Fringe Firsts prize at the Edinburgh Festival in 1991
Actors of the Cricot 2 Theatre
  • the ensemble is part of the former Cricot 2 Theatre - a group focused around A. Wełmiński
  • since 1992 it has produced: the theatrical action Anatomy Lesson According to T. Kantor - Debate, the show Maniacs, or Their Master?s Voice, as well as Kafka?s America
  • the working methods of the ensemble are based on experiences acquired during many years of close co-operation with Tadeusz Kantor in the Cricot 2 Theatre
  • participated in many festivals, (e.g.: Sao Paulo 94, Avignion 95)
Theatre OM (OM Theatre)
  • an avant-garde student theatre, also known for their performances abroad
  • takes part in the Krakow Theatrical Reminiscences
KTO Theatre - Street Gzymsikσw 1, Tel: 33 89 47
  • established by students of Jagiellonian University in 1978
  • since 1985 also a street theatre
  • the style of the work and repertoire belong to the medieval tradition of fair, traveling and circus theatre
  • organises the Street Theatre Festival in Krakow
