General Information
The situation on the lodging market becomes better and better. Many
international hotel chains such as Forte, Holiday Inn, Marriott or
Radisson have opened their hotels in Poland. Many hotels of Polish chains
(Gromada, Orbis) have been restored and reopened. The number of private
motels, build along main roads and in resort areas is still growing.
Poland offers also a good possibilities for budget traveling. Many
bungalows and private apartments are waiting to be rent. In our country
you will find also many restored historical buildings, converted to
pensions and hotels. We invite you to explore our lodging pages.
Hotels
During the last few years there has been high growth in all kinds of
accommodations, unfortunately most money are invested in luxury and
expensive hotels. There is still insufficient number of small, inexpensive
hotels, especially in Warsaw. Polish hotels undergone in recent years very
serious modernization and today they are more or less of European
standard, although there are still exceptions. The largest chain of hotels
in Poland has Orbis. They give good prices and have often cheaper weekend
fees. You will find their hotels in almost every city. Some of so called
hotele pracownicze (workers dormitories) have been refurbished and are
today good cheap hotels, usually filled with visitors from the East. You
should not have problems to find a hotel with free rooms but remember,
everything is booked in Poznan during fairs and in Zakopane or Szczyrk in
the winter.
Hostels
With 1100 PTSM (Polskie Towarzystwo Schronisk Mlodziezowych - Poland's
Youth Hostel Association) hostels, Poland ranks as one of the most budget
traveler friendly country in Europe. Some of these hostels are situated in
school buildings and are open only during the summer. Priority is given to
people under 26 with YHA membership card but there is no age limit. Except
having common rooms they have sometimes double rooms as well. They are
closed from 10 AM to 5 PM, but you may stay on a rainy day. You will pay
some $5 for a bed in a common room. You will find also PTTK hostels (Domy
Turysty) in Poland., especially in the mountains, where they serve
mountain hikers, but also in the biggest cities and other tourist areas.
The network of PTTK hostels is not as comprehensive as PTSM one and the
prices are higher. Do not forget about student dormitories (akademiki)
which are opened for guests during the summer. $4 - $10 for a bed in a
triple room is almost next to nothing when you compare it with the
standard. You will always find a bed here.
